Hifz Tips

In Hifz Focus, we use two categories of errors to give you precise feedback: Jali* (Major) and *Khafi (Minor). Understanding the difference is key to improving your memorization and recitation.

Jali (جلي) - The Major Errors

Jali errors are clear and obvious mistakes that change the meaning or structure of the Quranic text. These are the most critical errors to fix.

* Changing a Letter: Reciting "عَلِيم" instead of "حَلِيم".

* Changing a Vowel (Harakah): Reciting "ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ" (rabbi) instead of "رَبُّ" (rabbu).

* Adding or Missing a Word: Skipping a word or adding one that isn't there.

* Skipping a Verse: Missing an entire verse during recitation.

How to Fix: Jali errors usually indicate a weakness in the core memorization of the verse. The best approach is to repeatedly review the specific word or phrase, focusing on the correct letters and vowels until it becomes second nature.

Khafi (خفي) - The Minor Errors

Khafi errors are more subtle mistakes related to the rules of Tajweed. They don't change the meaning of the words but affect the beauty and correctness of the recitation.

* Incorrect Elongation (Madd): Making a long vowel too short or a short one too long.

* Incorrect Nasal Sound (Ghunnah): Not applying the nasal sound correctly for letters like Noon (ن) and Meem (م).

* Pronunciation Quality: Mistakes in the 'heaviness' (tafkheem) or 'lightness' (tarqeeq) of letters.

* Stopping/Starting Incorrectly: Taking a breath or pausing at an inappropriate place.

How to Fix: Khafi errors are about refinement. Listen carefully to a qualified Qari's recitation of the verse and try to imitate their pronunciation, timing, and rhythm. Hifz Focus helps by pinpointing the exact location of these subtle errors so you know what to focus on.
